Model Casting

As the search for models for the Leeds RAG Fashion 2019 draws to a close, the last lot of potential models came to the stand and gave it their best shot to become part of a show which not only does an amazing job at celebrating diversity, but also supporting local charities.

This year’s auditionees had to show off their best stride in front of a panel of 4: one of the show’s directors, the 2 model managers and the head stylist. The models were each asked a question about themselves so that the panel could get to know the real them a little better. After that, the models were asked to walk twice: once normally and once with a set emotion.

Although this may sound a little intimidating, the RAG committee and other auditionees give each other support at every opportunity.

We were lucky enough to be able to catch up with some of the wonderful people who auditioned to chat about their experience, their reasons for auditioning and much more. Here’s what they had to say…

What inspired you to audition for LRFS?

I am a member of the ballet society and had heard loads of great things from everyone in who performed a ballet piece in last year’s show. I love the fact that the show is for a cause and links fashion with raising money for charity. I wanted to audition last year to be a model but only heard about the show after the auditions took place, so when I saw the auditions were advertised, I couldn’t miss out again!

Describe your experience of auditioning for LRFS:

The atmosphere was so fun and friendly. I would encouRAGe anyone who didn’t get the opportunity to audition this year, to definitely sign up next year. The auditions were super relaxed and quick.

What inspired you to audition for LRFS?

Well, I am from India and I really appreciate the diversity the show offers. I never thought I would fit into the type they were looking for, so I am really excited to try out for a show where everyone and their individuality is celebrated. Furthermore, I think the fashion show is a great opportunity to help the community.

Who is your style icon?

Deepika Padukone — she is an Indian actress. Her style is so simple and classy.

Why did you want to get involved with LRFS?

I auditioned to be a model last year and got cast in the show but I sadly had to decline because of my study abroad in the Netherlands.

Have you ever had any modelling experience before?

As I go to Art college I’ve done a few shoots with friends for their work. I once did a shoot with a group of models naked, where we were covered our private parts with fruit.

What inspired you to audition for LRFS?

I wanted to audition last year, however I was too afraid. I really felt like I missed out last year. This year is my last chance to audition and I finally gained the couRAGe to just give it a go. Also for me, the charitable aspect of the show is really important.

What do you think of the atmosphere of the casting?

Honestly, there is such a nice atmosphere. It is easy, comfortable and not that quiet, everyone just talks to each other and it all just feels really chill.

What inspired you to want to get involved with LRFS?

I’ve never modelled before, but it’s always been something that I’ve been interested in. I’m from China and watching fashion shows In Shanghai inspired me to want to get on to the catwalk.

How would you describe your style in one word?

Tomboy.

Why do you want to be a part of the LRFS; have you ever modelled before?

I was with Tamika, the director, earlier and she said that I should come along and give it a go. I’ve done a catwalk before.

What inspired you to come to the auditions today?

I’ve wanted to do it for ages as the shows always look amazing. I’ll be graduating at the end of this year, so I thought I might as well go for it whilst I still can!

What do you want to do when you leave university?

I want to get into music. I’m really into Afrobeats. I’m learning to mix at the moment.

How was your experience auditioning for LRFS?

It was fun. I got the emotion ‘drunk’ so I just used my experience of getting drunk the 1st time.

Don’t worry if you were unable to audition this time, there are many other ways in which you can get involved, especially with helping to promote and support our charities; Behind Closed Doors and the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. It’s important to remember that the Fashion Show is created for the purpose of not only showcasing talents but also to help those in need. If you have a moment, go and check out our two charities’ websites. The more awareness we can spread early on, the more success we can have in the long run.

Thank you for everyone who has been involved so far and thank you for every one that auditioned, you have all been amazing. Keep an eye out for all the exciting things coming in the near future – Leeds RAG Fashion Show 2019 has officially begun.
